EMI Disc Playback Problems - Questions and AnswersEMI is introducing new disc formats in response to dramatic growth in piracy of our products. In isolated cases, certain playback problems have been encountered with these disc formats. This document aims to help users solve any such problems.

Apple® Macintosh®Question:
Why do 2 CD icons show up on my desktop when I insert the disc ?
Answer:
Because the Mac® recognises both the data and the Audio parts of the disc as different volumes. This will not affect your listening enjoyment of the disc.

Why can I not burn a copy of the disc in iTunes® ?
Answer:
Because the disc carries copy control technology which prevents digital copying.

Why does iTunes® not play the disc correctly ?
Answer:
iTunes® is reacting to the copy control technology, which is why the copy control system carries a Mac® player.

Why does the Mac® player not start automatically, as it does in a PC ?
Answer:
This feature is not currently supported.

Why does the Mac® player not run on my Mac OS® 8.1 or lower ?
Answer:
Because the Mac® player needs the CarbonLib extension, which is only supported in Mac OS® 8.6 and 9.0 to 9.2. CarbonLib is installed automatically by System 9.0 and higher. However, your system may need an updated CarbonLib.The CarbonLib update delivers improved performance and reliability for Carbon-based applications on Mac OS® 8.6 and all Mac OS® 9 releases, including Classic CarbonLib can be downloaded free from Apple.

Why can I not copy the disc to my hard disc using SoundApp® ?
Answer:
Because the disc is not designed to be digitally copied.

Why won't the disc play on my CD Audio player?
Answer:
Please test the disc on a number of audio players. If the disc fails to play on several players, it is likely to be a faulty disc and should be returned to your retailer. If the problem is specific to one particular player, please report the problem to the manufacturer and to EMI. We will endeavour to deal with your problem.

Why won't the disc play on my car CD player ?
Answer:
Please test the disc on a number of audio players. If the disc fails to play on several players, it is likely to be a faulty disc and should be returned to your retailer. If the problem is specific to one particular player, please report the problem and we will endeavour to deal with your problem.

Why won't the disc play in Microsoft® Windows Media® player ?
Answer:
The disc is designed to play on a PC using it's own software player. This player is provided on the disc and should autorun and play as normal with the player on the disc.

Why won't the player on the disc autorun on my PC ?
Answer:
Windows will start up the player automatically after a few seconds, as long as 'Autoplay' or 'Autorun' is enabled. It is likely that you have 'autorun' turned off. If you have disabled Autorun, then please enable it.

Why can't I copy the disc using Microsoft® Windows Media® Player ?
Answer:
The disc is not designed to be digitally cloned using Microsoft® Windows Media® Player.

Why won't my PC recognise the disc ?
Answer:
Due to the copy control technology, a small proportion of older PC drives will not recognise the disc. Please try playing it using another CD-Rom drive. If the disc does not play, please obtain your exact pc drive details and send them back to us, along with the Artist, Title and catalogue number of the problem disc.

Why does the disc not carry the Philips Compact Disc logo ?
Answer:
Because we have introduced a new standard to the Audio disc market that is not the same as the old Phillips standard, therefore we do not use their logo.

Why when I copy the files using Microsoft® Windows Media® Player are there clicks, jumps or distortions in the music ?

Because the disc carries copy control technology which prevents digital copying.

Question:
Why won't the PC player run when I'm at work on a network or on another networked PC ?
Answer:
Because Administrator rights on the local PC are required for the PC Player to install and run.It is likely that on a corporate or company network, the IT dept has not given you Administrator rights to your PC, therefore the PC Player cannot install or run.
